From the first post:

Quote:
Black Leghorn Male X Barred Rock female
Pullets have pure black head cockerels have white spot on head. Can also use australorp or black langshan male with similar results.

As quoted plus cockerels will be barred when they grow and pullets will be all black. Hope that helps.

The sex linked barring is what's giving the sex differences in this case not gold so pretty much any non-barred rooster will give the same result.

Ok. so I might put a spare Rhode Island White in with my Legbar hens and see what comes out.
Could I use any of the offspring to breed back into the mix to develop a new strain off autosexing?

Oh sorry, it won't work if the rooster has dominant white. He needs to be coloured and not barred.

But my RIR will work ok?

I'm thinking a shortcut to Rhodebar.

Yes just back cross barred progeny to the RIR for a couple of generations then intermate. Ultimately you want to select males with two doses of barring.
