ATTENTION ALL MALAY ENTHUSIAST'S

After a discussion with Justin from Benalla this morning, we are now seeking interest from any Malay enthusiast's, to form a

"Malay Club Of Australia".

As there are some great birds out there and a positive interest (that is growing) in Malay's, it may be a time to think about forming a club for the breed.

lt appears that Malay's are shown, at all Breeds and Game Shows and that they are doing okay, without the recognition of the quality that they deserve to pull off higher achievements in the shows.

I come from a showing background in Dogs.
Breeding, Hunting and Showing Scottish Deerhounds.
Years ago, we never got a "look in" for the Best ln Show Awards, yet now , we are there with a "Minority" breed!!!! and WINNING.
MOST IMPORTANT THING THOUGH, IS THAT WE DID THIS AS A CLUB AND NOT AS AN INDIVIDUAL.
It came from pushing and educating and never say NO.

The same could be said for Malay's, being a minority breed.

It is the intention to have a "Malay Speciality" in 2007 / 2008 somewhere central to us all.

What is needed now, is to spread the word and to find out who is interested and why?

A 'Club' in my opinion should be for all persons, regardless of why they have Malay. It should be a Club of friendship and laughter and most importantly, a place for people to meet and help each other.
SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE! Who knows? But one can only try.

If you are interested, would you please send details of Name, Address and Phone Numbers to :

kesper@optusnet.com.au

THERE ARE TOO MANY GOOD BIRDS "DOWN UNDER" TO LET MALAY'S GO THE WAY OF THE DINOSAUR!

Thankyou for reading.

Yours In Malay,
Richard Kesper

I think there used to be a malay club in SA many years ago. Perhaps as a stepping stone, a game club could be selected to feature malays, and try to set up a club? Another option could be canberra nationals. I am happy to help, but tend to take on too much, so don't want the driving seat.

Richard, you might need to flip your calendar over, as 2008/2009 might sit better. There are good malays in all parts of Australia, so might have to think outside the box in the way of running a club to get people invloved.

:D good to see someone having a go at starting a club
i would be intrested in this venture even though I am to
far away to be an active member. I think the malay needs
the recognition that a club would give it, a recognition well
deserved by such a statly breed.

Thankyou for your imput Andy. Yes you are right, as 2008/2009 would sit better.
As I mentioned to Justin this morning, an established Game Club or All Breeds Club that would offer a Malay Speciality might be the go, as they have the experience at running a show.
Where is a good location and Club that is central to all? VIC, NSW, SA, QLD. ( Sorry to offend W.A and Tas!!!)
Justin was quite right in saying that the show is only as good as the quality pens, big enough, to cope with Malay Cocks. This seems to be an issue everywhere, as the birds can't stand properly. I don't know the answer, but l will find out what is available through the RAS.

Michael, it was great to also speak to you too, good luck with your search!

Yours In Malay,
Richard

Not many malay breeders show their birds. They tend to enjoy them more at home. An option might be to have a "lawn show" like the oxford breeders do.

Malay breeders can be hard to get stock from (some are fairly secretive), and some hang onto their bloodlines very closely, and rare occasions when they let go birds, prices are usually are the $150 mark upwards. Some breeders are more helpful :) Maybe think of it as a breeders network, or put out a handbook that could be made. Could look at raising some $$'s to start a group, and publish info to promote the breed. I could take a pair of malays to canberra and put them up for auction with proceeds going to the venture. Not sure I have a lot of birds spare after Sunday :P

grand total now 6 Malay.

Very happy with all the help offered by Andy and Sam on the day :D

but breeding Malay does seem to be a bit of a boys club :D

Cheers

Hello Raylene,
Thankyou for posting!!!
It's fantastic that you have voiced your opinion.
It would be lovely that all Malay owners / breeders or whatever , are in it for the breed and not for personal gain.
We all keep Malay for various reasons and to unite would be brilliant.
Am I in dream land or is it a possibilty??
I like to keep a positive outlook on everything I do or want to do. lt stops me being a miserable old get that won't let anyone near my Malay's :D :D

"BOY'S CLUB" , I CERTAINLY HOPE NOT...

Keep up the contact Raylene.
Thankyou,
Richard

I certainly love this great country of ours but sometimes its just too big. Probably would not be able to be a very active member because of distance but I love the idea and offer my full support and will help in any way I can.

Richard Have e/mailed you my details.

Please don't forget that the Internet makes our world so much smaller and sites like this with wonderful ideas like the on line show can keep all parts of our country involved.

Cheers Andrew

There is a club that caters for all game breeds currently in place. This is the ALL GAME CLUB OF AUSTRALIA and the President is Jim Reynolds 02 62274177. The aims of this Club include the promotion of all game breeds in association with the specific breed clubs if they exist. It is also within the aims to educate those breeders who put their hands up to judge game birds as per the set standards.

It may be worth contacting Jim as he has both large and bantam Malays as part of his Game bird collection.

For what it is worth I show Indian Game bantams and some "Game bird specialists" don't know much about judging them so you are not on your own in that regard.

I would probably be interested in taking the breed up as they are pretty rare in my state, if I could get hold of very good quality ones. Interesting birds...ugly and beautiful at the same time.
