Very educational document! I hadn't realised I was making a mistake in its name - that "Marans" is the singular name for the breed, not "Maran". I won't make that mistake any more :) ("Maranses" as plural??)

Nicely put together David, certainly a lot of history and a lot of work has gone into it......I am a bit worried about the diseased estate mentioned in the first paragraph of page 9. I think this should be deceased estate :)

And no I am not splitting hairs or correcting spelling but if it to be used as a profile document, it needs fixing up.

God I must be getting old, or need new glasses !! LOL
As it's now A PDF I'll get Andy to fix it.
I suppose that it must have been diseased before it was deceased Eh.

Very good information.
Who would have thought that a feathered shank chicken would originate from marsh lands!
Thanks for all your work David

The feathers probably stopped them sinking in the mud :)

Well done David. I remember transporting some of the Victorian Marans to Tassie about 8 years ago. Must admit they were the wildest birds I have ever experienced! My recollection of them was that although quite nicely barred they were very small, much lighter than the standard weight. Can't comment on the egg colour cos none were laid overnight on the ferry, they were too busy squawking!

Well done David! I don't think there are many breeds/breed profiles that can explain the makeup of the breed quite like yours. Very informative.

That's a fantastic breed profile! Thank you very much indeed. I hope you don't mid but I would like to copy it over to "The Poultry Garden" Here are some of My french standard Copper Marans. Which I will now call Copper necked Marans! I took the pictures this morning for a French lady living in Scotland.

Timbo I am very jealous of the availability of breeds you have in your area. You have things that we just dream about down here.

Any barnevelders?
