he is lovely and red and looks like he has a good tilt foward. if you can keep him away from other roosters as he looks like he has been in a war that will keep his comb neat. also if you can get wood shavings to scatter in the pen, this will help keep him clean and prevent breakage of his footings. also give him practice in a training box where you give him treats so that when he is the show he is relaxed and will fluff himself out and hold his head down.

show him and learn. remember you are going to get some disheartening remarks because he is a different colour. show him as a red in the AOC section.

Great colour, would like to see a front on shot. Feather and shape are important.

Hi Hayne,
He lacks tilt / type a little but colour wise reds (good reds) are very hard to come by. I know Ken Lingwood over there is trying to make reds from scratch along side his fantastic buffs.

If you can start pen training him you should be able to make him stand to show a little more type - definatly worth working with as his colour looks very good.

Hi Hayne ,does he have blue in his wings or is it just the photo .A shot of the wing extended would help. If he does have blue in the wings he is prbably an overcolored bluered. If he is a bluered breeding to a good wheaton hen will help with type in the next generation

in that picture he looks very similar to a recent addition ot my yard from rina, a blue tailed wheaten.

he has a nice cushion, a good head and a lovely yellow beak.
looks to have good foot feathering.

would like to see pictures of him from other angles too.
cheers

he does look like the bird i got from rina, which is a blue tailed wheaten. he has a good depth of chest, lacking a little in width. he has excellent foot featherings and his upright stance looks like it can be attributed to being maybe free ranged, he looks like he would tilt forward nicely with a bit of training. his neck looks to be a little long for a pekin. but he is a lovely looking bird.

thank you very much Caladenia,
your comments have been of great help
so you would call him a blue tailed wheaten and not a red or blue red?
do you think he is worth showing or may not just cut it?

mmmm good question re the colour, i am not certain. he is a beautifully coloured bird. i would have a crack at showing him, you have nothing to lose. try pen training him to get him to tip his head down forward................he has the alert posture of a bird that is used to taking care of hens is what i was trying to say before.
