Thanks for bumping this Christian. Gives me more info on the partridge colour I am trying to learn about now.
One thing that I found interesting is that they say the ground colour should be reddish bay, but most I see are very gold in colour. Are people trying for the darker, deeper colour or are they sticking with the lighter one?

hi Coops,

I havent forgotten you, i have just had two shows, a school camp, and a soccer tournament in 2 weeks

The standard does say reddish bay, most are golden brown(dead oakleaf) these are descendants from english partridge, where two pens are used to produce either exhibition males and exhibition females, Carefoot describes these females as having foxiness, and says that clear definite pencilling will not be possible on them.

I am as you know along with others, trying to create Large Partridge Rocks, F1's will carry Mh so it will be interesting to see what colour they will look. Unfortunately i will have to choose whether or not to make PB or CB, i am leaning to PB as females are always easy to offload, also i cannot keep too many roosters where i live currently.

I will be posting an update and detailed breeding records so when i out these birds there will be no arguments.

Cheers

Christian

Thanks Christian, I think all your work is going to help me alot!
My breed is bred out of one pen. Colour in the breast of the male is a real no, no but they want perfect lacing in the females.
I think you are right to go with PB, you know it is always about the girls being pretty!!
I am looking forward to seeing your photos and learning lots about partridge. Nobody here seems to know why, only what they are supposed to look like. The chick down is supposed to be the secret, but I am not convinced yet.

Hi All,

there has been some interest in this breed on the forum of late, i just thought i would boost this as people maybe unaware that breed profiles are at the top of the page in the green headings.

Cheers
