Hi I have 14 pekins that are about 5-6 weeks old. Some have redder and larger combs. Are these ones going to end up roosters or is it still a guessing game at this age?
Thanks

Yep, at 6 weeks you will get a good idea of who is who. Sometimes there will be one that is a little confusing, but most boys start to show themselves then.

Hi Hattie, at that age the little roo's will start to have go at your hand with sudden moves, the little girls will usually will hold back and move back if they can.

Thanks for your replies.

So its more their behaviour then their appearence that you go by at this age? Or can you tell by the redness of their combs and development of their wattles?

Just trying to work out how many new pens I need.

Thanks again

Hattie,

I'm no expert I've only been breeding for one season. I mainly use the size and redness of their comb and wattles. I have seen some boys more confident than the others, but not all of them. I've also seen girls too being confident.

I'm no expert either, I've just started my little collection of Pekins and intend to get more.
These are 6 weeks, clearly tell the difference by the comb development. Buff pullet and Blue Roo.

I have three 6 week old pekins and they all have combs but none of them are big like that roo.... I will have to post some pics and see what you guys think. They are so tame it is amazing. When I sit down they come up and sit on my lap. I really love this breed.
