Today I notice more brown feathering around the whole of his neck area, like on his chest in this picture.....I thought he would be just a black pekin? Will these feathers go away?

I have a young Pekin-cross of quite identical colour, it's from a black mottle Belgian d'Uccle hen: the rooster is a buff Pekin/bantam Wyandotte cross. He is a genius at finding his way into the wrong pens: also 'got at' some Araucana hens he had no business talking to so I also have cute buffy Araucana x fluffballs.

I'll put up a photo soon of the little kiddo, it's only about 14 weeks and I'm hoping a pullet, though it was an aggressive chick from Day 1.

I need to get some updated pictures, he now has little brown feathers coming in all around his neck. Why is he not a birchen Lazy? What is he if not?

A Birchen has Silver or Gold lacing on the neck hackles and the breast feathers.
Rocky is an example of a Black Bitza.

Yes I thought birchen were those striking lookers with a silver cape. This little toot isn't striking, but very full of itself - and tiny. And yes could be described as a bitsa, although I prefer cross-bred. Not quite as close to Rocky's colour as I thought: disclaimer, at this young age they change every day.

Possum that doesn't look overly pekin like to me because the feet aren't very feathered....on closer examination this morning, rocky has litte brown feathers coming in all over him, not just around neck, breast area. He is very feathered on his feet and has the shorter legs, so I think he is a cross of two pekin colours.
I still love him and his spunky little personality regardless!

No, not Pekin. One-quarter Pekin. It's the possible parentage mentioned in my earlier post about this chick, at the time the colour looked closer to yours but is changing.

I think he's ER which is the gene for Birchen, but he's not quite what the Pekin people would call the full expression of the Pekin colour Birchen. I know that's confusing calling a exhibition colour the same name as a gene when they're not quite the same.

With the colour coming though on the chest, in the game would it's a brown/red... A lot of the pekin colours were crated with OEG blood years ago in Australia.... That's why some pekin male what to fight every thing, even there owners..
