, pierres chicks from dlg barnies and 2 marans crosses, what do people think of their down colours, mostly wheatons, all hatched from the darkest brown eggs i had. 100% hatch 13 from 13 fertile. 1 is a bit scruffy as went over time and was stuck to membrane, removed from egg and so far appears strong.

my chooks are still laying well .large and dark too ,even in this heat .

they are all out of the shad now. they are in they free ranging coops and runs .a lot of space and shade from a fruit trees .they are like the goat .they like the plum leaves .they eat any leave they could reach . clover girls . I never though of that .Bonus .

was had to build all this coops and runs in this heat but I got done . I could not leave my lovely chooks inside the shad in this heat .lost quite few.

all good now every body is happy .the way it should be . not going against nature .

what left to do now is cosmetic . plants .worm tower to provide them with fresh protein . water tanks etc............. work never end any way .

 , having a study of pierres young cockerals there is one that has a almost clean red laced breast with blue hackle, saddle and tail, will grow this one out, has feathered shanks.there is also quite a few pullets that look golden cuckoo also with some blue in hackle and dark red breasts, will keep an eye on these. Would be interesting if i end up with blue laced red Marans. If the cockerel looks the goods will try my luck. Must take a photo of him tomorrow . Could still use the darkest ground colour dlg barnie hens with him too. Has anyone seen blue laced red marans. Might even try to get some blue laced barnie pullets to put under him. If i go this direction will end up with blr bantam wyandottes and blr marans plus blue / splash silkies. Yes i do seem to favour blue  . Still getting a few blr bantam wyandottes hatching to give me something to work with next season. Must do a big cull before winter as the feed bill is getting out of hand  .

Studied all the cockerals none of real good colour and most have yellow legs. I probably will just keep a couple of nice pullets and sell, eat the rest. As i have a quite decent young slw cockerel growing and 3 pullets plus the 2 good slw hens. Would prefer to breed nice pure bred slw. So as i cut down will leave for layers a couple of barnies the 2 aras, 1 Australorp, the buff marans cross and the best 2 marans cross barnies from Pierre, there is some nice silver and gold cuckoo. I need to stay more focused on breeding blr bantam wyandottes. He is interesting jose , hes neck is it silver :?: i will let him mature and who nows i may use him yet, there is actually 2 like this, quite a few gold cuckoo pullets, pullets that are wheaton on body but with white head and hackles, some almost pure white, and some very dark cockerals oh the delema with too many choices :aaargh: :doh
