Hi All,
I thought I would share my experience with this as the topic often comes up.
My research seems to indicate that the most common answer is 2 - 4 weeks.
I have a hen who jumped a fence into the neighbouring flock to which the rooster was very happy to meet a new lady! :clnava
I have had her locked up, absolutely no chance of colluding with a rooster for 29 days. She is still laying fertilised eggs! :shoc
I will keep you updated.

May the chook be with you!

My lovely girl who was supposed to return to her flock on day 28, Tuesday 26th Feb, is still laying fertile eggs. And they ARE fertile because over our heat wave, they started incubating/growing in my hot kitchen!!

Thanks Showy Hen. :-D He's my magnificent Plymouth Rock Boy. That's him at about 10 months. He's even bigger now, he must be about 15 months now. I really should get up to date pics!

He's lovely! That proud stance is justified. :)

:aaah! UPDATE. Still fertile eggs as of the 10th. She hasn't laid any the last 2 days. The next bloody one is going in the incubator to see if it kicks off. This is crazy!

Last update- we got to 43 days and then she went off the lay and started to moult. That last egg was still fertilised! I never did get one in the incubator.
Cheers every one.. Here comes Winter!
