OKay this section is for us freaks who love our Chooks but LOVE our Gardens just as much.

This is where we can SWAP or GIVEAWAY any plants , cuttings, or seeds we may have.

Strictly NO SELLING. Leave that for the Sales and Wanted section in another part of the forum please.

You can list garden tools or chook sheds or tractors to giveaway andthing to do with gardening with poultry should be fine. BUT NO SELLING

We must remember too that WA and TAS have strict quarantine rules in place for plants and seeds etc. so here's a link for Tasmania. And hopefully the one for WA is correct. If not can someone please find the one that is appropriate.

I have some seeds from a Kabocha Pumpkin..These pumpkins are in my opinion the best pumpkin to have..they are only small and have the same texture as Sweet Potato. Can be a little drier than the Sweet Potato as well.
PM me to give me your mailing address.

Here's a link to a website about the pumpkin. We've successfully grown this one.

http://www.harvestmoon.com.au/kabocha.htm

SO FAR ALL SEEDS HAVE GONE. I MAY HAVE MORE LATER ON THANK YOU EVERYONE.

South Australia has strict quarantine on ALL plants fruit or plant material coming into SA .Some plants are ok if they are in potting mix and not soil ..
The fine is huge so i would be sure before you send stuff anywhere .
Its not just the fine you could be responible for huge losses to agricultural industry if you introduce a pest plant or virus .There are many things that are in one area and not wide spread .Check it out .

Hi there,

I have Comfrey in my garden for feeding to the chooks. They love it. I know it is discussed alot on these forums, I think its great for them, they have the most orange yolks i have seen when the are feeding on this.

I harvested a whole heap of seeds this year and can send a few to anyone who wants to try and grow them. It goes dormant over winter so I expect it will regrow in spring and i will have more than I can handle.

I got about 70% to germinate last year, and 5 plants will keep a few chooks happy all summer long, so i will send 10 seeds.

I can give them to you for FREE (will just post in an envelope). NSW only unless you can assure me there is no restriction for your state. If you have anything chooky you might want to trade then great, but really its just to say thanks for all the help I have received from BYP.

Thanks again for all your ideas.
Raphael in Canberra.

Hi kazlee,
pm either eggy for the leoapard seeds and rwood for the comfrey.
I'd certainly love a heap of your swaps but I cant' bring plant life into Tassie unless it's on the good list.

Been to Tassie, I can see why they don't want to ruin it. Thanks for the contacts. I remembered a heap more plant stuff last night, and we actually had more than three spots of rain, first night my chickens stayed outside of course.

I've been over the past six or seven years, trying to get a heap of mother plants established, and excess seed, rare as well ,so I can open a little nursrey. Money issues made it that way, but probably for the best.
Anyway, I think I might have found a way to keep pots from drying out too quickly.
Lay a thick layer of potting mix or mulch on the ground {something that holds moisture, I use rice husks from the local piggery } Poke your pots in about two inches and water the lot. In the long run I'm pretty sure we'll be saving water.
And, why do plastic pots have to be black ?

I can send some cuttings within nsw only. In exchange for anything interesting.

I will have to see what I have... I can do gardinia, lemon verbena, lavender, and I will get back here with a list.

Sarah.

I can do cuttings for anyone in VIC, mainly succulents, some geraniums/pelargoniums, and I would love to swap for some chook greens?

Also looking for an old broody box or rabbit hutch I can use as a broody box that someone might be throwing out or not need anymore?

Thanks,

Tish
