We came across this in the local cafe the other day and after having done a little research they are apparantly quite rare!

Anyone had their girls lay these white-yolked eggs?

I had a chook who laid dozens and dozens of them when she first came into lay. I remember saying to the OH that if we could breed a whole flock we would get a premium for the eggs. She of course reminded me that with no yolk in the egg it was going to be hard for her to pass on her genes

That was the thing-this tasted and had the consistency as regular yolk...it was the strangest thing.

When I told the owner about the specialness of this yolk, one of the staffers told me he'd had two of them the week before....

Not so rare. :-D You can fairly easily produce them. The colour is just due to the amount of carotenoids in the feed. If you prevent free ranging and feed colourless feeds you can produce them eventually.

Commercial egg producers measure their yolk colour against charts like the DSM Yolk Colour Fan you can see if you scroll down on this page:

I reckon they must be the eggs they were using in a hotel in England. the scrambled eggs on offer looked like it was only made of whites!

I have the opposite here, my girls' yolks range from flourescent yellow to bright orange.

I love it when I boil them and slice them in half and get concentric rings in the yolk. You can see which bit was laid down the day the girls got leftover curry in their scraps!

They're called platinum yolks.

Sometimes we get eggs with no yolk at all, they are tiny little eggs. Other days we get triple yolks in really big eggs!
