Updates as to the turkey mounds - ive been trying to take photos of the young that have sprung from the mounds, but they are like road runners on steroids , superfast :-D
So far , ive counted 3 individual young birds (not a huge outcome from all the females hanging around the mounds - there were about 5) , all at different stages of growth, so the eggs have obviously been laid at intervals over several weeks.
The young birds are interesting - all brown down and huge black tail feathers held out in a fan - any time out in the open is spent streaking at full speed across the open space; they are also very bold, chasing the chooks off even at a young age.
I have a feeling i am going to regret allowing the male turkey to make a mound so near to the chooks......
