just wondering if anyone know's how to work out how much soil you need to fill in a garden bed.

How long is a piece of string?
What are your garden bed measurements?

Length x width x depth = volume

Expensive way to do. Can you get a small load of compost and soil mix from the landscape suppliers? If you add manure, also add Blood and Bone or you will get leafy growth at the expense of flowers/fruit (too much nitrogen).
If you have some old soil from your chook pen, dig some of that in, and about a handful of B &B per square metre.

I don't have anything in my compose yet, that's something I am still getting around to do.
So you think just use the soil in the chook run and some blood and bone.
the soil is sand soil I think, because I live a block away from the beach and all around my place is sandy soil, but I have had the chook run for about 7 years.

You still need a basic soil mix as a start. Just the soil from the chook run will be too concentrated. Your soil on its own may be too salty Ask your local soil yard or garden centre what they have in bulk. Mine sell what they call vege mix (soil, compost and manure)

As Sue55 said that is an expensive way to go. Do you or a friend have a trailer? Cheaper to go to a sand and soil yard for a trailer load of garden soil or vege mix - saves the delivery cost and you might not need a minimum truck-load anyway.

I worked out 1 garden bed it is 350x50x20cm= 350000cm when I convert it to litres ( that what bag comes in 30l ) it works out to be 350litres soil I need which is $9 a bag, which I worked out I need 12 bags which is about $108.
I rung my produce store and the have soil in cubic metre for $85

If you can pick it up yourself you can buy 1/2 metre and spread the rest over some other garden beds or top dress your lawn. If possible, stockpile the remains for a few weeks as the level in your new garden will drop.
Do you have a mate with a trailer?

yes, but it is property easier to get them to deliver it.
