I must have been going to the wrong shows then as I have been to heaps where an OEG gets out the front but I have never been to one where an OEG with great type but badly coloured gets out the front.

Now in saying that I am also the first to tell someone that you build a house first before you paint it so do agree Colour in OEG is not a major issue but colour defines the breed and to mix two colours that are so different as a Crele and a Birchen is a receipe for disaster. For one thing a birchen should have a dark face and legs when a crele should have red face and light legs these two colours shouldn't be mixed. Then there is the hpe that a new fancier will go on for a few years with their breeding where would you advise them to go in the second and third year.

My advice to any exhibitor when starting out is to first join the local club and go to a few shows and learn from the locals that are acheiving results on the show bench. But above all else start with one colour and stay with that for a few years. As a new exhibitor althose years ago I started with Black OEG and made so many mistakes with them goodness knows what I would have done if I had chosen a couple of colours.

We need more exhibitors yes but we also need exhibitors that stay in the fancier for years not start and give up after a couple years because of discouraging results at shows because they have been given wrong advice at the start.

I have to agree with u there Geoff.
We must all Encourage the newbies to the fancy.
One of my pet hates is unscrupulous people selling Junk to the Newbies, and then to top it of tell them Yes they will win in the Jnr Sections (if jnr Exhibitor).
U can all see my signature, Quality before Quality.
This also reflexs on the birds that i sell.
Any thing i get that i consider Rubbish doesnt make it to sales (make good tree fertilizer).
What i take to Sales is of quality that would win shows or at least be competitive, thats the young ones, the older Breeders will produce good young.
I prefer that people say good things about my birds that i have sold rather then have a bad name around the Fancy.

Time to hope of me soap bx now.
