We have a lovely pullet here that is around 6 months old, she has enough size but it not as heavy as the other pullets that we are showing as they are 2-3 months older.
I am very tempted to show her at this age as she is a lovely colour & has the best feather condition at present, she will definitely be shown next month, but I am wondering, am I wasting my time at this age, is she likely to be passed over because of her lack of weight ?

what breed are you talking of, a wyandotte i presume?

if she is not at the correct weight she could be penalised, how light on does she feel compared to the other birds?

if she is in good nick for her size it could be worth a try :)

If nothing else it will give her some experience before the shows that you are really targeting for her.

To hold, she feels no different in the hand, meaning, she has no more keel bone presence then the others, but she is definitely lighter, its hard to say by how much without weighing her, but at a guess she is maybe 2 kg's, I would expect her to gain probably another kilo over the next 6-9 months.

And yes she is a Wyandotte.

the other question, which you may have answered an i have missed, is does this show have classes for pullets and hens?

if yes, enter her into hte pullet class where she will compete against other pullets

if not, well she will be at a disadvantage

They have both classes, I have a pullet entry, but the pullet we had been preparing has damaged a lot of her saddle & tail feathers, so I think this alone will disadvantage her.
This other girl is much cleaner & a better shade of blue, but as I said probably 500g lighter.

Decisions, decisions. We are just cleaning up a cockerel that shouldn't be shown because his tail isn't in properly. I had the choice of him or another two that do have tails but I don't think have as much potential. I know he won't do any good, but I'd like to put him in a pen next to some other cockerels and compare him.
