This is a photo of Thomas Davey of Woombye which is a town located in the Sunshine Coast area of Queensland.

I can't find out a lot about him except that he was born in 1848 and was the first pineapple grower in the region.

There are a few photos of him in government libraries but only a couple can be duplicated. The second one shows him with a 'prize fowl'. It's hard to be sure but I wonder if it's a bantam buff sussex.

This first picture was taken in 1900.

Second picture taken in 1911. I wondered if this was taken at the Royal but it's also possible that it's a local show.

I thought it was too big for a bantam, but then not big enough for a standard either.

That was my first thought Andy. Just wasn't sure whether they were about in Aus. way back then. They certainly were used in commercial flocks later in the 1900s. Stan Gibson had a flock of them SE of Melbourne up until the early 1980s

Hi all, Thomas Davey is a direct relative to my my mother. She has been researching her family's history for over 30 years and her mother was a Davey. This photo is of Tom and his prizewinning rooster at the Nambour Show in 1911. Sorry I can't tell you anything on the breed details it's not something my mum noted down however perhaps if you get onto someone who could help you with records from the Nambour Show they may be able to help.My dads family was also heavily into poultry with a business in breeding and selling utility birds. What hope was there for me it's in my genes. Cheersi
