There are just two days to go until close of EKKA entries.

This was the content of the latest email out from the RNA:

Entries for the 2015 Royal Queensland Show Poultry, Pigeon and Bird Competition close this Friday 26 June at 5.00pm.

Enter online here:,-pigeons-and-birds/

Following feedback from our valued exhibitors, the RNA would like to reassure our competitors that we have streamlined the penning in and out process for the Poultry, Pigeon and Bird competition at this year’s Ekka to ensure parking is available onsite and grooming can take place at exhibitors’ convenience.

We are also aware of concerns regarding the new location for the competition which has been relocated to the combined Dairy and Poultry Pavilion. The reason the competition has been moved is due to the ongoing Brisbane Showgrounds Regeneration Project. Since the commencement of the 15 year regeneration project in 2010, some competitions and exhibits have been relocated to accommodate construction. We are grateful for the understanding and patience of our exhibitors as this once in a century project transforms our iconic showgrounds precinct – and ensures the Ekka continues to be held on this site for another 140 years.

To thank exhibitors for their patience and understanding we would like to offer those who enter 10 exhibits or more a complimentary one day entry pass to the Ekka. These free passes will be sent to exhibitors after entries close.

Please refer to the following information for more details on this year’s competition:

New Layout

The exhibits will be housed across three areas (Poultry bays 1 & 2, Poultry Pavilion and marquee) separated by breeds. Poultry will be housed in poultry bays 1 & 2 while classes for birds and pigeons will be located in the Poultry Pavilion with Waterfowl in the Dairy Goat Apron marquee (refer to map below).
Signage will link all three areas to ensure maximum exposure of the competition to the 400,000 plus visitors who come to the show each year.

New Judging Day

Judging will now be held on Thursday, 6 August from 8:30am (Ekka eve). Due to this change in judging days, exhibitors are welcome to come and watch the judging process with the closest pedestrian access available at gate 5A.

Penning in

As you are aware, penning in of exhibits will be held on Wednesday, 5 August 5, between 7am-8pm. To ensure this process is as streamlined and convenient as possible, exhibitors can enter from Gate 5 O’Connell Terrace turn left into the Poultry Bays and drive direct to the pens. Exhibitors will be able to pen their birds straight from their vehicles / trailers. Once penned, they can drive onto Oval 2 and then walk the short distance to the pens to continue grooming.

For exhibits that will be housed in the Poultry Pavilion, competitors can drive through the Poultry Bays and park in front of the pavilion to pen their birds.

There will be food and beverage vendors open during this time.

Penning out

Collection of exhibits will be conducted on Monday, 17 August between 7am and 5pm.
For those with extenuating circumstances that are unable to pen out on this day, the following times can be provided:

· Friday 14 August 6pm–8pm
· Saturday 15 August 5am-7am
· Sunday 16 August 6pm-8pm.

Please send requests for alternate penning out times to:

Vehicle access permits

All exhibitor vehicles that will be coming onto grounds to pen in and pen out with their exhibits must have a vehicle access permit. Please apply for your permit here.

Entries extended to Friday June 26.

We value your feedback

We are very mindful changes made within the Poultry, Pigeon and Bird Competition have caused concern for some of our exhibitors. We are encouraging our exhibitors to contact our Competition and Events Coordinator, Kelly Barnett directly on (07) 3253 3934 or to voice any concerns / issues they may have. We value your participation in the competition and our team is here to make your entry and involvement in the show as enjoyable as possible.

Thank you to those exhibitors that have already entered.

I look forward to seeing you at the 2015 Royal Queensland Show.
