I have 2 birds booked into RASV poultry show this weekend, but over all I am not happy with them.
I had hoped by the show date (Entries had to be in about a month ago) that they would have feathered out better.

My son has entered some Orpingtons and they look pretty good, I had entered as some support for him
Do you just take them anyway or "scratch them"?

It is only two birds and $4/bird so not big dollars.

Ron

There's no harm in taking them. Two birds are not a lot of work and it means there won't be two more empty pens. You know if they aren't ready they are unlikely to win much but participation and doing something alongside your son is probably the goal anyway. Take them along and enjoy the day.

Agree with the others. If feathering is related to seasonal weather conditions there are probably other exhibitors in the same boat. :-)

also, you may be able to get some feedback on your birds from some more experienced exhibitors, who will be able to look past the feathering issue............give it a go!

I say show.

Youve paid the entries, you're going anyway to take your son, you'll get a chance to catch up with friends and probably make new ones and you never know what catches the judges eye.

Some of my birds didnt grow out as much either since I put my entries in, a month ago but I'll be there.

Well was a victorious day but a shallow day.

SLW hen 1st plus Champion Standard SLW
SLW pullet 1st plus Reserve Champion Standard SLW.

Unfortunately I had the only two SLW in the whole show!!

My sons Orps had much more competition, cockerel got 3rd out of 5, and pullet not placed out of about 8. He had a great day and was rapt to get a card.
