I am at a bit of a loss; I have searched the Internet for days with no luck so am hoping someone hear knows about geese. I have ha my 2 Geese now for about 8 months and have always thought I knew the sex of each one but now am not so sure. My white goose (spice) does nothing but graze around. My grey goose (cinnamon) will hope on spice in the water to mate, will sit on the eggs (only about an hour at a time) and will look after the nest. With embden geese, should the male hope on top, which looks after the eggs and nest. I have no idea which is which, and do not feel comfortable trying to look at there sex organs as have been told you can hurt them if not done proper. Anyone know about geese??

Cheers Samm

Any help would be of great help.

Hi Samm,
I'm guessing they're both females. Females will mount each other in water as a dominance thing. Sounds like the dominant one is thinking about nesting. The subordinate isn't even interested.
Don't know much about Embdens, though, this is my own observations of my Pomeranians and Chinese, where sexes were known.
You could ask on The Duck Pond too, for a second opinion.

ps. I have some Chinese known-to-be-ganders for sale if you're interested!

Geese can not be sexed by eye colour.

It sounds like two females, but cant be sure unless you vetn sex them, if you are gentle you wont hurt them. Look at the stickies for more info.

On a side not, embdens are pure white, so if your geese have grey in them they are X breeds.

Regards

Honk
