Hi,

I have owned a pair of white Indian Runners for the past year. I would like to get some more, preferably some coloured varieties.

My questions are:-
Should they be kept as pairs?
Is it better to have one drake to x amount of females?
Can l mix colour varieties together?

I would appreciate your feedback.

You can mix colours but you will in general create un showable birds as the colours will be wrong. Some colours can be mixed and shown like black and chocolate.

A minimum of a trio, and a miximum of 5 ducks - i reccoment 3 ducks 1 drake, and less than a trio though will result in a very 'used' duck.

If you want to spefically breed a pair together, i reccomend leaving the drake with her for a few days, and then remove and put him back in after a few days and so on.

What colours do you have?

At the moment, i only have the one pair of White runners.

However l also have a pair of "mini ducks". I'm not sure if this is an actual breed, as l have never been able to find a reference to mini ducks in books.

The four are currently housed together at night, and when they free range, they still seem to "hang" together. I am intending on building a new enclosure to separate the two varieties. As l would like some more runners, l was wanting to know about housing to determine the size of the enclosure.

I have posted photos to the gallery in the past, but can't seem to work out how to include the photos into the forum. If you can be bothered looking at the photos, l would appreciate your view as to the breed of the mini ducks.

Hello

They are a pair of yellow billed white mallards :D

Very pretty little ducks, and classed as a natural bantam.

Thanks Tribe of Honk.

Was just looking at your website. I take it that you don't keep runners? Can you recommend a good source for me to buy from?

Not sure where Haddon is, but Kirribindi farm has good whites for good prices :D She is located in macclesfield - near monbulk.

You can find her on the forum, not sure if she has any at the moment though.
