Hi all,

Do geese ever lay down to sleep?

Most geese sleep for short periods only . They SIT normally with their head under their wing . If your goose is laying on its side I would check for vital signs !

She (or he) is ok...its just that I have never seen her lay down like a duck or chook.

Geese unlike chooks are active or semi active even at night . They are always alert . It would be very unusual for this bird not to sit ,squat laydown for short periods now and then . You haven't got it lined up for Xmas dinner ? They are very perceptive of these things ! It may feel it stands a better chance not sitting around! You probably just don't see it do so .

No way is she ending up in any pot of mine :) That is why I bought her...to save her from a pot. I got her for $5 from Geelong livestock market.

She has always been very alert and very suspicious of any movement. But at the same time she has never attacked or even tried to go for anyone. The most she does is hiss a few times. I have never seen her sit...when napping she always stands on one leg with her head tucked under a wing.

I have no idea how old she is or for that matter what sex she is...all we know is that she (we hope she is a she) is a Brown Chinese cross.

Our brown chinese female prefers to rest/sleep on one leg rather than on the ground. She seems to have more difficulty getting up off the ground than our other geese.
