I have taken a liking to Black East Indies/Indie/Indian ducks as a breed, just a little confused as to the correct name for these waterfowl or are they 2 or 3 different breeds, also the availability, how hard are they to come by.

Black East Indies & there is just the one breed.
They are not thick on the ground but over the past few years there have been quite a few more around, largely due to a fairly large breeder dispersing his stock. Quite a few people purchased a few birds each and bred them.
In saying that I havent seen any advertised of recent times.
We did have them ourselves a few years ago & found the birds we had very timid and near impossible to hatch in the incubator, although our other duck breeds were hatching fine at the same time.
We let the ducks set on their own eggs & got good hatch rates though.

blucalypt,
Thank you for clearing up the name, and the advice on the breed.
Much appreciated.
