I'm wanting to slaughter some of my 8week old Pekins. None of the Drakes have got the curl feather developed on their tails yet. How do i tell which are drakes and which are ducks, as i would like to keep most of the ducks and slaughter most of the drakes?

Thanks, so the males make no or very little noise then?
They are pretty close to fully grown, even though they are only 8-9 weeks. their growth is phenominal.
When they walk around as a group, maybe half a dozen of them seem to make a bit of noise, the rest are quiet.
So those noisy ones would be females?
The noisy ones are also more animated in their movements

Yes, you should be able to identify your females once the group is about 5 weeks old or so. Suggest you get some legbands or cable ties and perhaps separate the the males from females into separate pens. I had someone experienced to help me sex my first lot and after that it was so obvious. You may not need to pick them up, depending how excitable they are. Start off with 2 pens one of probable females, other of probable drakes and firm your selections from there. :-)
