Not happy about this Cackles. If a messed-with gene gets into the heritage or fancy strains, wouldn't it affect hatchability of eggs if it is harder for a chick to crack its shell 'from the inside'. Equally for people taking on rescue hens from 'the industry' and hatching their eggs. Not much that the industry does seems to be of any benefit to backyard poultry keepers.
