Hi!

Manna Gum,

Conjecture about about Atkinson's artwork of gamefowl;

YES I COULDN'T AGREE MORE!

WHAT LEAVES ME PUZZELED IS;

WHY????? DO SO MANY OF OUR AUSTRALIAN EXIBITORS FOCUS ON THE FEATHERED WORLD PAINTINGS BY ATKINSON'S AS SCRIPTURE; RATHER THAN UNDERSTANDING THE OXFORD STANDARD?

TO UNDERSTAND HIS PAINTINGS & ARTWORK YOU MUST FIRST UNDERSTAND THE HISTORY, BACKGROUND & DEVELOPMENT OF OLD ENGLISH GAME FOWL! AS IT IS FROM THIS PERIOD OUR OXFORD STANDARD EVOLVED!

READ AND UNDERSTAND THE STANDARD; BEFORE STUDYING THE PICTURES!

Sorry, if you feel I'm speaking aloud!

Sometimes its worth speaking aloud; so your crow can be heard above the crowd! Or should I say; above the majority!

Please keep in mind, one should never distrust or fear what your current opion tells you is the voice of the minority; until you have a CLEAR UNDERSTANDING of the HISTORY, BACKGROUND & DEVELOPMENT of OLD ENGLISH GAME FOWL; in this case PRIOR TO ATKINSONS FEATHERED WORLD ARTWORKS!

THIS WAS THE POINT TO MY PREVIOUS POST!

CaPs oN or OfF Is ToTalLy ErLiVaNt!

Those who do not read and understand the Standard; will VISUALISE ATKINSONS FEATHERED WORLD ARTWORKS AS THE SCRIPTURE! TO WHICH THEY WERE NEVER INTENDED!

THE STANDARD IS THE BENCHMARK!

NEVER BREED AND DUB TO ATKINSONS PLATES!

READ AND UNDERSTAND THE STANDARD; BEFORE STUDYING THE PICTURES!

Sorry caps were on again!

Not an Atkinson but one of my prized possessions. It was given to me as a gift by a very good chicken man.

Truetome, is that a Worsdale (sp)? Some of his look good but he doesn't seem to paint on canvases.

Veronica Mayhew in England usually has a collection of old prints for sale.......the feathered world series of Atkinson depicting the colours of the fowl are on sale in N.Z , Frank Connolly in Cali also deals in game fowl art work. Quite often on ebay both in the states and the UK old hand aquatints are put up for auction........

Beaten Egg please keep in mind Atkinson’s best art work would be is his written text(s); some great quotes, letters and information by this masters hand have been posted on this site for all to study these are invaluable!

Our most celebrated artists would view their libraries as their greatest and most valuable resource, Atkinson would have been not exception to this.

Old ad from the Game Fowl News, June 1958. This would have been a good buy back in 1958 ..
