The Australasian Book of Poultry (1899) it is one of my favourite poultry books and the source of the Australian game prints that I have posted in the gallery Compton writes very well and 1899 or so was an interesting time for poultry breeding generally with the development of the poultry fancy and the commencement of scientific breeding for utility traits. Doesnt really help your search for information about the man but I commend this book to any Australian poultry breeder with an interest in history. So it is great that Bellsouth has reprints given the rarity of the original.

Arguably one of Australia's greatest poultry authorities / artists, A.J. Compton wrote several early books and was a regular contributor to Poultry Newspaper. Fenwick wrote a piece on Compton in Australasian Poultry Magazine a few years ago and I thought Pegawl had started a thread here on this forum but I can't find it.

Here's his front page spread in Poultry Newspaper, Apr 30, 1932 -

Manna,

I think this might be the thread that you were looking for - it in Breeds not the Library: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8007933&hilit=%2ACompton?

However while I was looking I found 4 pages of posts in which Compton ( search *Compton) gets a mention :

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8013394&hilit=%2ACompton - Pile Aussies what color legs?
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8010840&hilit=%2ACompton - Aussie Game info

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8008521&hilit=%2ACompton - share your examples of fadism in poultry

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=7975466&hilit=%2ACompton - Aussie Pit Game: where can I find more info?

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7957800&hilit=%2ACompton - Australian Poultry Standard?
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4616&hilit=%2ACompton - Some Useful Books
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=137&hilit=%2ACompton - Yellow Birtchin or Ginger Duckwing

Across the 3 forums, Breeds & Breedings, Exhibition Poultry and Poultry Library back to start of the forum, latest to oldest posts. In many cases a thread has several posts that qualified.

I haven’t opened the threads and they may or may not be of interest but I thought I may as well jot them down while I had them together.
