the average consumer thinks "free range" eggs, means that the chickens are out and loose in grassy paddocks all day. ergo, i believe this is what it should mean. there should be a minimum not only of space, but of foliage also. a square meter of dirt shouldn't count, other than for dust bathing.

the price of such eggs would be high - but would better enable home producers, such as myself, to feel less than guilty about charging $5 a dozen to the friends and rellies that constantly hassle them for eggs!

currently i work on a "four dozen means you drop me a bag of good quality layer mash" principal... cheaper than chips eh?
