A friend of mine was recently at a Rotary Book Fair. The kind of thing that you pay 5 dollars for a shopping bag and fill it up with books of your choice. They noticed an old book with some pictures of chooks in it and grabbed it for me thinking I might like it. They really wouldn't know a Silky from a Game Fowl, just figured I like chooks so I might like this.

I have to say I was a little stunned when they gave it to me. I feel pretty lucky it found its way to me.

Just having some trouble uploading photos from Taptalk. Might have to try something else

Sorry. Not trying to keep you in suspense lol. I know what it is. Just trying to upload some pics. It's a first edition ( I've been told) of Mark Marshall's The King Of Fowls.

An Admin tweak is needed to give you permission to upload pics - we have to add you to a special Tapatalk user group & how long that takes depends whether Cathy is around at the moment. :-) I'll let her know. Do you have another computer that you can use for now?

 A good find Dan! Be very very careful you can become hooked!

I seem to spend more time scratching through book bins at sales; than I do in the feed bins at home lately!

Look forward to seeing you at GI! It will definitely be a good gathering! This time I promise I will acknowledge your presence; last show you must forgive me, as I didn't know who Dan1971 was!

Too late for me Pedro. I've already started a collection. I like wondering where they have been and who has owned them in the past.

A mutual acquaintance sent me a photo of his copies, as well as informing me Marshall was a cordial maker, who often painted his artworks with food dyes. I love those extra details. I'll attach his photo. ( with his permission) . I really love that he has a Marshall Ginger Beer Bottle.

As for the last show, I didn't know who anyone was and being of a more quite and reserved nature, wasn't announcing my self as Dan1971 . Lol. I had an excellent time though and did get to speak to a few. I'm looking forward to GI too. I'm a little more familiar with some of the other Oxford fellows now, and will be bringing a couple of fowl with the hope of getting some more experienced hands on them.

Yes your old copy looks like it could tell a few stories! Looks like it has been around; passed from fancier to fancier! Give a new comer a trio and loan them a book; only to get it back years later with coffee stains! Its all part of the fun!

There is a 2008 '4th Edition'. It's print quality is not very good especially the images. Beech Publishing House. It's what I originally purchased when I wanted a copy to read. I think I got it off EBay.

Hi Dan1971, you were certainly lucky to come across a copy of this book, as anyone who has a copy of this book holds a rare part of poultry history in Australia. I am curious to know how many are still in existence. Can you confirm yours is number 169 and would you mind asking your friend what number his is?
