I know I haven't been around on BYP for a while but it's funny what brings you back to chook chatter.

My wife and I are expecting our first baby in May, so we're busily (frantically?) setting up the kids room with cot, change table etc and of course a bookshelf. We've already got a few Graham Base books (because who hasn't?) but one book we can't seem to find is "Grandma's dead chook" - at least we think it's called that.

The plot from memory sort of revolves around grandma losing a chook, shedding a small year and burying the bird. Only to find it back on her doorstep repeatedly for a few days, gradually getting more distract until the case is solved. It could only be an Aussie children's book but I'm not 100% sure on the title.

Can anyone help? Has anyone else heard of it?!

Nick :-)

Never heard of the book, but from your description I think I'll want to get one for my kids, nephews and nieces also! maybe search google images and you will recognise the cover?

The Sick Chook! It's called The Sick Chook! It was published in the 80's before I was even born, and it's part of a series that's very aptly named Country Kids.

Lorraine Wilson is the author http://www.lorrainewilson.com.au/

That took some serious googling to uncover...

is that how the book ends, with a dead chook getting dug up 4 times?
