I have been asked to judge the Online Show on BYP and to write a little synopsis on myself!
I have been breeding and showing poultry on and off for 40 years. I have never been one to keep just one breed or show just a couple of birds at a show. When I was 9 years old I started showing poultry, I had white wyandotte bantams purchased from Frank Catt and went on to breed and win many awards with these birds. I then went onto purchase large white wyandottes from Alec Lamont and RIR's I bought from David Davies and Harry Dunn which I bred and showed at Sydney Royal for the first time in 1977. My wife and I have in 2010 wyandotte bantams, in white, silver laced, gold laced and columbians, and in large wyandottes, whites, silver laced, gold laced, buff laced and buff. We also show and breed black pekins, large black langshans, black silkies, white silkies and have a few OEG bantams in duckwing and black red.
I am a believer in using the Australian Standards as a dictionary, and always study the standard if I am judging a breed that is on the rarer side to ensure that the bird is not disadvantaged by me not knowing anything about that particular breed.
I am a member of the EPA, the Wyandotte Club of Australia, Moss Vale Poultry Club, The Sydney International Wyandotte Club, The Pekin Club of Australia, the Central Coast Poultry Club and the Hunter Valley Wyandotte Club. I have always tried to be an active member of what ever club/s I belong to and have officiated often as show secretary, club secretary, publicity officer and even the BBQ cook if needed.
I have judged an endless list of shows throughout Australia, however the more notable ones include: Sydney Royal, Tasmania Rare Breeds Show, Tamworth Ag Show, Hunter Valley Wyandotte Show, Dapto Show, RI Club of Australia, Moss Vale Show, Walcha Poultry Club Show. I am happy to give information to those getting started in poultry and always eager to receive information and tips if it means improving my breeding lines.
I look forward to judging the online shows shortly
Kind Regards to all
