Ok thought I would put together a list of where you can buy camera gear a bit cheaper.

A great websearch for really finding anything and doing a price compare on everything from computers to GPS to fridges.

www.shopbot.com.au

For straight cameras and equipment:

www.digitalcamerawharehouse.com.au (has a store in Canterbury and a new one opening in Melbourne if you dont like to deal online)

http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au (has a shop front in Nth Sydney)

For computer gear and technogadgets:

www.staticice.com.au

Most places will deal online and deliver, which isnt a bad thing if you are remote from a capital city or in another state......also you can take some of the pain out of chrissy shopping.

I bought my stuff from DCW and they were fabulous.
I am hoping to part with some more cash there soon too!

Lucy,

Yes they are good, have used them a lot. Digital Discount is also quite good and between them, they cover off most of what anyone would be looking for in photographics.

Can anyone point me in the direction of reputable sellers of used (digital) cameras, please?

Do any of the major retailers do trade-ins for clients upgrading their photographic equipment and/or also sell used cameras and lenses?

My local camera shop has ceased to exist since I bought my first digital camera a couple of years ago and I'm thinking of perhaps looking for a D-SLR next...

Digital Cameras are great marvels of modern technology :) SLR is great, as you can get a great range of lenses. Unfortunately the lenses are very expensive, but if you go for a good brand, they will last a life time, and only need to update the body :)

I am bias for canon, but Nikon, pentax and minolta are well known also. Might be worth wandering around your nearest shopping centre, and asking to have a play, and see how they feel in your hands  Then when you work out what you want, you can search for them.

Shops sell secondhand, but fairly expensive. In the newsagents, you can pick up a b&w foolscap size booklet full of second hand cameras and equipment places and advertisments. (cant remember what its called, but cover is yellow)

SB,

www.staticice.com.au is useful as well. But mainly caters for electronics.
