Seb,
I hadn't noticed the tail. I was looking more at the shape of the head and the size of the shanks. The second bird is much finer. I can see where some of the confusion is coming from when I look at the feathering now.
I have to admit I was wondering why everyone was having so much trouble with it and now I could be wrong too!

Original photo is almost certainly a boy.

They are so funny how you can tell from weeks 3-6 but then its hard to tell again until week 13 or so.

And its all about comparison isnt it. If you have one of each, its obvious.

 But when you have 3 - it is even more confusing! With my 3 I reckoned a definite boy and a definite girl but the third one was different to either and depended which of the others I compared it to, what I thought it must be.

I have pretty well decided, now that they are 12 weeks old, that I have 2 boys and a girl ...(Suspected this all along and really the doubt probably was just wishful thinking on my part )

Now for the Speckled Sussex - will start a new thread. The pullets and cockerels seem to be more evident than in my Light Sussex at the same age...
