Hi,

Any ideas if this Silkie could be a Pullet or a cockerel? Have more photos if needed. Regrards Julz

My guess would be a pullet .

An indication of how old the bird is is helpful.

Yep, its a girl alright. A cockerel would have a more swept back crest.
:D

Hi, Thank you all for your replys. I sincerely hope she is a girl as she is my daughters pet and her last Silkie Eleanor took us all by surprise and started crowing. Luckily we found a great home for Cedric as he is now called. She is only young approx 15- 18wks. Would be interested to know roughly when Silkies start to lay also? I will try to get a front on shot and post it at some stage. Thanks again Julz

I've only had one pair of Silkies. The pullet started to lay at about 5 months, about a week after the cockerel who had just started to crow had been re-homed.

She laid for 18 days then went clucky - and continued this cycle pretty well as long as I had her :)

I find they mostly don't start laying until around 7-8 months, later than your normal laying chook.
