Hi there.

This is my first attempt at posting something, so sorry if I stuff something up!!

I did a crazy thing - I bought 2 cute little chickens at an auction, not knowing what they were... I was feeling a bit sorry for them.....but, well......like I said....they were CUTE!!

I'm now thinking they are something along the lines of Australian Pit Game, but hoping someone may be a bit more familiar with game breeds who may be able to help me identify them.

Also, at the time, they were penned next to an obvious Rooster of similar breed, which gave them a bit of a "pullety" appearance.....until I got them home and came to my senses, that is... lol

So I guess my questions are simple - WHAT ARE THESE GUYS? & ARE THEY ACTUALLY GUYS??

Thanks so much in advance for any help!

(Oh- and PS - If they ARE "guys", is there anyone out there who'd give one or both a lovely home? Seriously, what was I thinking???)

Yes, sorry they are both boys. Australian Pit Game looks about right too.

Is it the large tail feathers that indicate boys?
Is there a thread somewhere that gives tips of what to look for when sexing - like how do you look at the chooks and know their sex - is it a learned thing?

I can tell from their heads mainly, they just look like boys. But their colouring gives it away too, females wouldn't be this coloured, they are a Brown Red colour (sort of), their colouring extends over their back and shoulders whereas females would only have their hackle and breast coloured.

Compare the colouring of these Mods, same pattern:

Thanks very much for all of your responses guys. It is what I thought, so at least I must be getting a little better at being able to tell. Let's just hope I remember what I have learnt the next time I visit a Poultry Auction!! lol
Thanks again!
Tash.
