These are a couple of RIR chicks we bought at 1wk old.
My wife is holding out hope that one may be a hen, I am thinking 2 roosters because of the tails?

I don't suppose you can get a larger photo? It's hard to see the detail of tail and neck that can help with gender.

The one in front has that shine in the tailfeathers that suggests rooster. The back one, however, has a more pullet-y sort of stance, so your wife MAY be lucky.

Lovely colour on them though!

The two in front of pic I am talking about, the black and white is (apparently) an ancona hen..

Both roosters. Nice chunky birds.

Based on the wattles (Dangly bits under the chin/beak area), and the pointed saddle feathers, my money is on both being boys!!

Ron (Please note not an "expert" on RIR so please don't chop them based on my uneducated ramblings.)

Thanks for that, I was thinking roosters, I think the other roosters (4 out of 5) have maybe slowed their development as they are clearly down the pecking order from the other two, I reckon they will start crowing and looking more rooster like soon or if we separate them? I am just guessing though.. Thanks again!

Yup, both rir look to be boys, and yes seperating them may help development.
