We love this little chick, it's very cute. problem is we don't know what sex it is, if it's a rooster, he's gotta go, but a girl i can justify keeping. so was hoping someone can help.
can you feather sex d'uccles, pekins and silkies?
thanks

Hi there,
Not an expert, but this year we hatched almost fifty dÚccles, so I may be able to help. We looked very closely and kept notes on various features to see if something predicted sex at an early age and so far nothing really stood out. However, by four weeks, sometimes three, the cockerals all had red, more developed combs and were very easy to spot, so unless someone else has a better suggestion (which I would be interested in too), I would say hold on to it for a couple of weeks and see.
On the other hand I have another unfailing system that involves me bonding with the chick. The ones I like always turn out to be boys!
Kathy
