Hi all,

Ive got three 7 week old andalusians heading to auction this weekend and was hoping to keep one of the pullets (if I have one to keep!). These are my first andalusians so am not familiar with sexing them other than wattle and comb development. I have 2 blues and 1 black and would like to keep a blue but I have a feeling the are both boys :hmmm: Pics are not that great as they are at night, however do show some wattle and comb development. Will try take a few pics tomorrow when they are out roaming about to see whole body shots. Thoughts and comments are kindly welcome!

The two blues look like males and the black might be a female.

I'd agree. You can safely auction the blues.

We don't see many Andalusions in this forum. Yours were only the second lot to go in the Index. :)

If you want to keep a pullet ONLY then you need to keep the black, since the other 2 are males . Which is a shame

took some more pics today, the blues are definately looking rooster-ish in the sun, very red in the wattle and combs. And they love to pose for the camera too, unlike the little black girl who is being very illusive to photograph!

If only I could keep roosters as they are two lovely boys :(

Luckily I have been in touch with a lady who will have two blue pullets for me at auction to buy from her :woot: so I go down with two blue boys and come back with two blue girls :bounce:

Yep, most definantly 2 blue boy. At least you can get 2 Blue girls at the auction. Though you'll have to put pics of them up on here as we dont often get to see Andalusians here.

Well just got back from the auction, got my two girls but still have my 2 blue boys :upset: no one wanted them at the auction which i found very weird, and my little black girl went for $6 (bargain in my opinion!)

will post some pics when they have settled in with the boys

Oakey I was after some blue females and she was black. So i found some blue girls at auction.

I dont think many people there had heard of them before, the lady i got my 2 girls off had some up for auction (group of 4) that went for $10 total

Anyone in WA chasing the boys PM me or check the sales section!

Just an update on this thread, my new girls have settled in well and one had me abit worried as she was looking suspiciously roosterish like my two boys. So I emailed the seller asking her opinion as she has bred them for years. Apparantly she is indeed a hen and the seller also noted that one of my original blues is too a hen ( chick #1)
So turns out I have 3 hens and a roo!

latest pics:

They are lovely, they lay well and are pretty, friendly chooks generally. The main drawback from a pure-breeding perspective is they are blue. Let me explain, wen you mate a blue to a blue you get 25% splash (almost white), 50% blue and 25% black, so you effectively have to cull a half of your chicks from every generation up front. Many people don't like to do that.
