We got given 12 fresh eggs from a friends chickens a couple of days ago and today we cracked one open and its white was FLUORESCENT green :shoc It wasn't just a green tinge l was fully neon green. It looked like it could glow in the dark.

So I'm just wondering what is the cause of this and does it have anything to do with the individual chicken.

We didn't get a photo because we put it down drain but it was very strange.

Thanks.

Google results suggest it's excessive Riboflavin that causes green tinted egg whites.

It makes sense given how B vitamin supplements make our own pee fluro yellow, it seems logical that it would have an impact on chicken eggs too.

It's also possible that it could be bacterial, there is one bacteria that will turn egg albumen green and is apparently UV sensitive (not that most people have UV lights to test them to see if they glow, lol).

a couple of weeds can cause this problem;
pennycress and shepherds purse.
also if you have any oak trees , the acorns can cause the egg to be olive green
