:aaargh: :aaargh: Hi Friends,
I've been thinking this solid black boy on the left in photos was a boy, the neck and head Pom Pom looks male to me, he's 15 weeks old. What do all the experts here think. I do love this forum I've learned so much. :th :oomm
Thanks
L

As a photography person I think black animals are hard to photograph.

I have been told that silkies can be sexed quite young by the size if their comb the boys extend back more.

I have never raised silkies

Yes, unfortunately the photos are too dark to see. Can you take a nice clear photo of the comb (front on) and the whole chook side on. The lighting will have to be good or it will just cone out black!

it looks like a pullet........the comb is quite small.

some girls have a bit of a swept back crest

you will probably have to wait and see if it crows or lays, but to me it looks like female

The photos are a bit hard to tell.
It depends on the bloodline....but I'd say pullet. I can confidently sex my Silkies by 10-12 weeks of age.
The body shape also looks like a pullet, the rounded shape of the whole bird. Silkie males should be more angular and masculine by this age :-)

Edited to add that it is a lovely looking bird!
