I bought what I thought was a pharaoh female quail from a pet shop but it turned out that she's a he!

I still can't see from the plumage how he could be male, but the foamy vent gave it away.

So that I don't make the same mistake again could somebody please tell me what colour he is?

He looks like he is a cross of the normal brown with tibetan.

Yeah, the different varieties of jap quail are still the same species so you can have crosses of varieties, similar to with chooks.
