Hi! Wondering if anyone can help me, I have a supposed Australorp hen who is a lot larger than her peers and I am starting to suspect she may be a he. I am unsure of exact age, we have had her for 6 weeks but I don't know how old exactly she was when we got her but we got 5 pullets (2 Australorps and 3 Plymouth Rocks) from the same person and they were all of similar size. Can anyone tell from the photos whether she is actually a rooster? And also she was supposed to be an Australorp but looking a her comb and eye colour my (novice) research suggests she is probably a cross. All of the other hens have a single comb, I am not sure if the breeder had any other breeds besides the two we have. Any opinions appreciated! Thanks in advance. Kylie

Hi Kyles and welcome to BYP

Definately a X breed - probably has Wyandotte by the comb shape. Also the eyes are the wrong colour for an Australorp.
The sickles and pointy hackle feathers and the comb and wattle size and colour say male :((

Thanks Sue. That confirms my suspicions, great to have it backed up. Of course it had to be the one my son has chosen as his favourite! :aaargh:
