Post subject:  Turkey Problem

Hi Guys, Got 2 weird problems, 1) I have 2 young 1(b) 1 (w)females with half there side ripped open, I mean under there wings and from top to bottom. I have patch them up and injected with Vam to booster them.
They are small and are with there brothers and sisters (clutch) and have introduce a big larger turkey from another pen, not for breeding Just to thin out from another pen. I caught him last nite on one of them. I have had to put them in small cag due to fox problem.( I have had to cages every thing) I have had a good look for any thing sharp But No.
Is there a diseases that may cause this Etc
2) The (w) girl has now devolped a leaking fluid from her backside as well as a red lump. She has just started to lay, this would be her second egg ever. Only discover this now.

It is most likely mating damage from the male "treading" on her. Many people use a coat on their female turkeys to prevent this from occuring.
Only other solution is to remove the males.

Hi wendell38.

Here's a link to a turkey saddle. Looks pretty dandy. http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Poultry-Chicken-Turkey-Saddles-by-Foxfield-Fowls_W0QQugidZ10000000001405250 We had a large Australorp Rooster who wrecked the hens back, really nasty hole by the time we discovered it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers for now.

Ann
