Final update - 12 days in and Fat-Brown is done with being a parent. She never attacked the babies, but just ignored them and spent her days running up and down the cage trying to get out. I put her back in with her original cage-mates and she went on as if nothing had ever happened. The babies made sad lost noises for a while but as long as they are together they seem fine. So, probably best to stick with a broody chicken if you want someone to care for the chicks for you!
