I don't know but I have a feeling you're going to tell us it's a species cross. I'm definitely going to be watching this topic. ;-)

Random guess - guinea x chicken?

Yes it is a guinea / chicken hybrid, mum is a pearl pied guinea and dad is a black red malay rooster! Out of 8 eggs 4 were fertile but the other 3 died a few days before hatching.... It sounds like both guinea and chicken in one call very weird, although the alone cry is more chicken like.

Was it a deliberate mating or just chance? Let me re-word that - were the parents penned together on purpose?

The Guinea had an accident as a keet and lost her foot, she was outcast from the flock and started hanging around with the chickens..... The Malay rooster was raised with guineas and thinks he is one! So they bonded by themselves but yes I did lock them up to get her eggs as we have lots of Goannas and crows that eat them otherwise.... plus trying to find them is a nightmare. In all the years I've kept various poultry together I've never had them hybridise, but always thought I'd like to try it one day.

He isn't that big, the same size as a normal keet but maybe a bit longer in the legs, the pic does make him look monsterous though :P here is a comparison shot....

How interesting. How many eggs did you set to produce one offspring?

If you wish to record the call on your phone and email them to me I could put it on here for us to hear.

Not sure if you know BUT there is a name for this cross ?

"Xmas dinner " ;-)

24/ 25 DAYS to hatch?
I am thinking with the long legs ,it will look like an emu chick soon .

I set 8 eggs and 4 were fertile, they all developed well but the other 3 died a few days before pip. This guy hatched on day 21. I have 2 more eggs on day 16, hope they both make it!

In some countries they breed this cross for meat, wonder how it would taste?
Surprisingly he hatched on day 21.

21 DAYS is probably why this one made it out and the others didn't then . Since GF eggs are fairly small and the resultant chick has long legs I would say the others just couldn't grow as required in the limited space .
