After buying some 13 week old quails and getting no eggs I was starting to worry I wasn't ever going to. Today we finally managed to get some gamebird crumbles to feed them to up the protein, and then I just discovered our very first egg! I'm not sure the new feed could have worked quite that fast, but I don't really care how I got my egg. I'm just so excited to have it!

You're right... the feed wouldn't have worked that fast... you've coincidentally had your first egg the same day you started to feed them the new stuff.

On the other hand, it may tip the balance in favour of your other hens laying now & also keep your flock of quail healthy & robust.

Looks like a very decent size egg... if it's not a double yolker then you may have a particularly decent laying strain of quail... I'm a little envious !

Congrats, they are great are they not! How will you cook your first half-dozen? Boiled and peeled and through a mixed salad is nice - looks good, tastes good. (The shelling becomes a quick knack, the first few are fiddley).
