My golden pheasants have started laying and I've put the first 2 eggs under a chook to check fertility as the cock is in his first year. Both eggs are fertile :)
My 2 pair of Californian Quails are still not laying. :(

Good to here swayne your first year cock is fertile as mine to is first year. He is just getting he's first true gold head feathers. Maybe the california quails start quite late in the season  . My pair today were very vocal / displaying on a front perch. Unfortunately I lost the spare cock found him dead with a head womb, was bleeding from the eye, must have wacked he's head real hard :-( .

Totally disappointed with Mandarin ducks 14 eggs, all clear, another female started laying a few days ago, 5 eggs in the nest, not optimistic about them either :-(

I noticed a couple of days ago they were making a new call, so had a look today and found 2 eggs.
Do they lay every day or every second day?

Up to seven golden pheasant chicks now  , more in the bator with california quail eggs and blr bantam wyandotte eggs. I did hatch 2 california quails but one drowned within 2 hrs on putting in the brooder even with a shallow water dish :doh :-( . The surviving california quail chick is quite happy in with the golden pheasant chicks for company.
