I found a peahen wandering my garden. She is very tame and I'm keeping her in a pen til I can find her owner as there a lot of foxes here and we don't have neighbours close by so she must have travelled a fair distance. One side of her face is very swollen under her eye, making her look as if she has a big puffy cheek. Any idea what this is? I have a picture but can't attach it here. She seems well other wise. I'll take her to the vet on Monday if there's no improvement and nobody claims her.

Hi Fenris82 and welcome to BYP
It sounds like the peahen has wandered to the right place - they do tend to roam during the day but the ones that have been around here return home in the evenings. Unfortunately it's on that journey when they are most vulnerable.
The most likely cause for the swelling (other than an injury) is a sinus/respiratoy infection which will need vet prescribed antibiotics. The only thing you can do today is have a good look and do a saline wash if the eye is messy however unless she is calm I wouldn't stress her if she is to see a vet tomorrow.
If you are unsure ring around first and find a vet who 'does birds'. If the first one doesn't, ask them for a recommendation.
Good luck and please come back and tell us the outcome. Do you have other poultry?
