if you find you are not able to log-on successfully try clearing your cookies

Internet Explorer
Tools
Internet options
Under General
Click Delete Cookies

Firefox
tools
options
privacy
under private data click clear now. You might want to check your settings so it doesn't delete all the other information. You just want cookies to be ticked

Tis has occurred as I have been making changes to the Cookies.

I changed my password and deleted the cookies as suggested. I finally was able to log on. I am now wondering why all the posts are marked as read by me when I don't change anything?! Sometimes I go to the forum and they are marked as unread then others they are marked as read. I don't change it so what does? :? I miss some new posts for ages, til I stumble onto them! :( I'm sorry you have to train me to use a computer but I really apreciate the help. Thank-you.C.

If you haven't read a topic and it changes to being marked as read could do with the session ID (which is set in your cookie)

It could also have something to do with your time.

Basically if your last visited time is greater than the server time then it says "Oh you must have read everything as your time is in the future"

I think I have found the time leak so it should stop doing that :-P

Also if you leave your computer on backyardpoultry website and walk away and come back after your session has expired then it would also think that you have read the posts.

The cookie error is occurring as I changed the settings last night, but your cookie time-to-live field has not yet expired. (it has not tried to get another cookie from the cookie jar yet with the latest information).

As the computer's cookie doesn't match the server then it says "nope not interested"

Hence why clearing the cookies and grabbing the latest one works :-D

Hi Zilly.
Yes, my problem has persisted and clever computer husband is in Brissy this week so no help from him.
If I do as described above will it delete cookies for all sites or just BYP?

Lucy,

I delete all my cookies and clear history every time I close my browser.

I usually run ccleaner too every day and this also clears cookies. There is no need to keep them after your session expires - the sites you visit will soon provide them, if you allow, and if they are necessary for navigating the particular sites. :)

You can choose to delete just the BYP cookie

Firefox
tools
options
under cookies
click show cookies
Scroll down to forum.backyardpoultry.com (that is the old one)
then click remove cookie

Internet Explorer
tools
internet options
under temporary internet settings
click settings
click view files
then find the cookie: @forum.backyardpoultry.com
and delete it

Alas, I am having lots of problems logging in.
For a while after the update I could only log in on one of our computers.
The one I use most wouldn't let me on.
I still can only get on intermittently with that computer.
Andy and Zilly have been checking things out for me but it is still not completely rectified.
My problems have required me to go 'cold turkey' on BYP this week!
Doesn't seem to have helped my addiction though.

I kept getting the log in error and deleted cookies and all is well now..but I have the same problem as others that it looks like i've read all new posts but I haven't. There are posts appearing that weren't there before..I'm set with it now that i've cleared the cookies. Thanks for the heads up Zilly

I cannot log on from home (dial up) since (I thought) I logged on from work for the first time a few days ago. I will try the cookies solution when I get home.

Logging on from either the work computer or the home computer should not affect your login unless they try to log in at the same time. One of the computers should come up with an invalid session and will require you to log back in.
