Here's some of the wording:
Keeping chickens in the backyard has lots of benefits and done properly will reduce kitchen
and food waste and reward you and your garden in many ways for years to come. If you
keep poultry on your property it is your responsibility to ensure they are kept in accordance
with Local Law 12 (Animal Management) 2013.

Quite a turn around from "chickens are not of this century" and "you wouldn't want to live next to someone who keeps chickens".

Just do it. No one should ever be deprived the joy of chook keeping.
If you get "caught" contact your local paper and get them to run a story on pet discrimination and stupid council rules.
Choose a breed that is small and cute, like Pekin or Silky. How troublesome could a pair of little birds be?

Lol artemis,
I did back then just ask all the neighbours and they were totally fine with them. In fact they all thought it was great and were happy to feed them when we were away. So we've had chooks for a few years now without any trouble. BUT, I always had this fear that someone might complain. Every time a bird flew into our yard on a weekend morning and one of the girls would start complaining I ran outside in my PJs to shoosh her because I was afraid someone else apart from out immediate neighbours would hear and complain. It's nice to know everything is cool now.

Good to know I can have 6 chickens on 600 meters
but 10 would be better and are bantams included please

I don't think they account for different breeds. But honestly, I don't think someone would dob you in for having more chickens than allowed. Who'd be counting?

as for me, I'm not a chicken owner anymore. We had a few deaths and ultimately decided to take a break from chicken keeping. May revisit it in the future though.
