Thanks grayzie :hiya: she was much better this morning- baycox is fast acting! The next saga is her sister had a cold- no runny eyes or nose but sounds like she has lost her voice! Spent the morning cleaning out pen and filling their house up with newspaper and rice hulls to make it cosy so she could have a warm place to try and get better! Will give them all some vitamins in the morning after I have finished the baycox treatment today- hopefully she will get better without having to go down the antibiotic route!

Love these little birds - just want them to be safe and well and happy!

Hi Trillian I just read this entire thread, what rotten luck you've had! I lost a silkie to Mareks so I certainly know what you went through. Your chickens are absolutely lovely, I adore their fluffy feet. They are very lucky to have you as it is plain to see what good care you take of them and how much you love them.
I hope everything works out ok. Best of luck !

It's been a bugger of a season Trillian. My layers all came down with a cold and then because of their weakened immune system got cocci as well!

Had to change all their bedding, syringe baycox down their throat once for two days, then rest a week and then the same and then rest a week and then again. They've been on antibiotics the whole time as well.

They're sent here to test us. :-D

Thanks lovemy girls and arquella :hiya: arquella I think you are right. I think it has been triggered by the stress of the move to the new pen and settling the pecking order. I hope when I can get the cold settled this will be the end of it! And I can just enjoy them. They are getting boiled eggs and protexin and I will start them on vitamins tomorrow- cross fingers and toes!

So Jo and Sarah-Jane recovered- baycox is magic!

Not sure if you can see the difference in size but here is Sarah-Jane's first egg next to my one year old hen's egg. She has since laid a few more and today Jo laid her first egg!

So both my beautiful girls are health happy and laying - cross fingers and toes! I have cuddles in the morning and evening, with Jo jumping and perching on my shoulder as soon as she can and sarahjane cuddling on my lap. Jack has now jumped on my knee a couple of times to find out what the little girls are doing.

Will take some more photos on weekend

Hope you are all equally blessed with happy heathy chickens

I realised that I haven't updated for a while- basically no news is good news :-) the 3 girls, oswin, Sarah-Jane, Jo and Jack the rooster have all been moulting heaps and are starting to grow their feathers back. They have been laying pretty much continuously even while moulting. They coped with the heat, but needed the frozen drink bottles and wet sand when it got into the late 30's early 40 degree celsius.

We have just been out in the garden for the last hour while I watered and they had a nice dust bath under the bushes - sorry hard to see black chickens in the shade!
